Purdue Club of Austin
This year we raised $1,100 for one scholarship and awarded it to an outstanding area student,
Angela Bowers. Angela entered Purdue as a freshman this fall – she plans to study engineering.
Angela and her parents were very excited about receiving our Club’s scholarship.
Purdue Club of Austin On Sunday, August 14th we had 48 Purdue Alumni, Family, and Friends meet at the County Line BBQ on the Lake for our Second Annual Scholarship Dinner / Silent Auction! We had 150% turnout from last year’s event and raised a scholarship in the amount of $1,100! The scholarship was awarded to a deserving Austin area student, Catherine Serou. Catherine is a freshman at Purdue and is very excited to be our scholarship recipient. Catherine is a very accomplished and versatile young lady. She is a member of a competitive rowing team at the Texas Rowing Center and earned the most improved award. She participated in equestrian shows, FFA events (raised and showed a goat!), served as a member of a horse judging team, a Science Olympiad team, and the Youth Orchestra of New Orleans as a violinist. Catherine has been a Girl Scout troop treasurer, a 2004 College Board AP Scholar, and a Texas Scholar Award recipient. She graduated in the top twenty-five percent of her Cedar Park High School class. Catherine is going to study Management at the Krannert School of Business. Catherine has called me no less than three times to tell me how grateful she is for our Club scholarship and how happy she is with her decision to attend Purdue. She asked that I share her enthusiasm with the local Club members. We should look for Catherine to do some great things at Purdue! I asked her to stay in touch and I will keep you all posted on her Purdue experience.
Purdue Club of Austin Kyle Davis is proving himself to be a great selection as our first Club scholarship winner! In June 2004, the Purdue Club of Austin awarded Kyle a $750 scholarship. The money enabled him to buy books and to focus on his studies - last semester he earned a 4.0 at Purdue! Also, Kyle was recently accepted in to a summer semester abroad program in Australia! He will both study and participate in a health-related internship from May to July in Australia. Kyle’s mom said that he is very busy and seems to be very happy at Purdue. Kyle has a goal to become a medical doctor and we wish him continued successes in his future endeavors. |
